#338 Worth The Wait | Wet Wild Camping In The Vango F10 Nexus UL2 | Durston Xmid PRO |

#vango #tent Despite being a Scot I thought I'd rather not watch the Scotland game on TV and headed out to meet a fellow UA-camr with the intention of wind testing the F10 Nexus UL2 in higher winds. Unfortunately the weather didn't play ball at first. I got everything thrown at me but high winds. But it was with the wait as you'll see and great to meet Jim who's not boring at all! Check out Jim...

#vango #tents My first time solo camping and testing the new for 2024 Vango Force Ten Nexus UL2 tent. Looking forward to making this a regular choice for both of us or a spacious solo option. Should be ideal for UK and European conditions but the limited head height and shallow vestibules might be a hindrance...time will tell! What do you make of it? #wildcamping #tent # I've been looking for a 4 season capable tent at around a kilo that doesn't need walking poles and think I've found it in the Lightwave Sigma S10. It was launched in 2019 and is currently sold out, so I had to find a used example I could buy. I'm hoping it will do me throughout the year and on the TMB without weighing me down. Really nice example of Carol McDermott, owner o...

#nordisk #svalbard My first night camping in the new exoskeleton poled Nordisk Svalbard was pretty much the perfect test with some fairly high winds to give it a good work out. When it comes to the question of how it performs and whether I should keep it. It's a case of 'heads or tails?' in more ways than one. Just saying to the wife our boat must have been out of the water 2 seconds later 5:20 we sail past 😂
where do you get your tvek from i cant seem to source what i want
I also have the Nexus, and I’ve just added a cheap, very lightweight footprint to keep the bottom protected. It’s the Gram Counter size L, from ultralight outdoor gear, and it fits perfectly. Just tied it with cord to the same points as where you recommended attaching the inner cord to the fly. 8000mm extra hydrostatic head, so should keep the floor dry long into the winter
It's nice but shite design for a 4 season tent. It csnt be a 4 season tent when u csnt set it up in rain without it getting soaked wet 🤔 these days some tent companies really don't know how to label their tents. Apart from that, it's incredible for how light it is. But the inner to be up first to the put outer on that's silly. Defeats the purpose haha
Have you tried the F10 Xenon UL Air yet? It’s so good! It has stood up to some serious gusts and no chance of broken poles. It’s one of the best tents I’ve had.
Still waiting on a ( your ) video to get a look at it! 😄
@@AndrewParkOutdoors I’ve changed the channel into radio so I started a new channel I will upload soon and let you know. I have a few days off soon.
Great review. I love this tent. The only thing I don't like is how much the inner sags. If it didn't sag above my head it would be so roomy inside
What amazing views, 👍
The original Svalbard 1 SI has an additional flap of material inside the fly at the foot end, so that when the wind blows, it pushes the material down and closes the external mesh vent. At the head end, the fly has both zip-mesh and zip-solid window. The internal mesh windows are fixed but I believe the fly sheet options provide most of the necessary adjustments.
Great. Price please?
If you're considering buying this tent, it's worth reading the reviews on trustpilot etc. I purchased one, it came with a rip. They offered tape to fix. Another rip developed, too big for the tape and they wouldn't refund or even investigate as a defect. They would only apologise and offer LED light strips, all of which are useless if you have a gaping hole in your tent. We have a different tent from them and there's no problems there. I think the product is good if you get one without defects, but if you don't, the customer service is beyond useless. They simply do not care.
Hi what tent would you recommend for me I want a fair amount of space with enough room for cooking insidexwen I have to, been looking at your reviews of the f10 xenon so that's looking top spot at the moment, any others you would put in front of this for a similar price point? Thanks
Hi Nathan, if you don't mind a slightly low profile the Nexus is very good so far. I also like the space in the 3f Ul Gear Taiji 2 though i wouldn't trust that in high winds tbh. A
Scotland is so beautiful
Great meet up and video. The morning was certainly worth the evening before👍
Great film Andrew. What you saw is a temperature inversion. Clouds can not invert 👍
Nice one Andrew, thanks for taking us along, those views are simply stunning to wake up to.
Hello Andrew. (Just off topic a wee bit here) I see we will be blessed this year as “Dixie” will be visiting our shores and doing the WHW. Looking forward to that video.
Id love to meet her but suspect she'd get me arrested for stalking 😅 in a serious note I did wonder about seeing if she would be up for a talk at Tiso or similar on a ticketed event. Just wondering how well it would sell ?
@@AndrewParkOutdoors lol. That would be fantastic. She is one of the top 3 in the hiking world tbf.
@@AndrewParkOutdoors that would be great. We'd get a few to come along. If anyone is considering it they should probably contact her asap. 😅
I just realised she's on it now ! I'm off to Barra otherwise I would have tried to bump into them 😂
You do live near some stunning areas mate and camping in all terrain’s on your doorstep
Once you get over the city limits we are pretty spoilt, thanks for watching 😊
Nice one mate and good to see you meet up with Jim. Atb
The three amigos next time maybe Ray ? 😊
"Mullered" after Gerhard Műller, yes?
Yes! Showing my age there 😅
Great to meet up with you Andrew, twas a cracking evening once the rain had passed and your friends had left us.. Thank you for sharing your whiskey with me and I hope we can do it again very soon. Cheers - Jim 👍
Had you not been there I don't think I would have left the tent 😂 Thanks for your company matey, it was an overdue pleasure.
I feel you deserved that cloud inversion after the sufferfest! The more I see of that F10, the more I like it, bring on the wind test!
Oh the wind, I really needed a bout of wind ! 😅
Thanks man. I stumbled accross the Light Tour on camperlists (which is probably the same as Collins outdoors, judging from the pictures of the website). Can you give an update on the light tour, especially in terms of longevity/durability, i guess you used it by now for some time, is it still up to the task? Thanks in advance, greetings from germany
Hi, it's still working perfectly. Two slight negatives for me it's it's quite noisy when moving around on it ( I need to do a back to back comparison with my other two ) and when sitting on it it will bottom out and you'll feel cold spots, lying down though it's great and I think it's my most comfortable sleep. A
So neither tent are great for breathability? Was one easier to pitch than the other?
The simond is easier to pitch but as these need to be stable I'd say much the worse tent. The BD is a bit of a classic for good reason. A
Love your videos. Do you use the emergency foil under the tent as insulation? I'm wondering about the warmth of the Ferrino Solo so just curious. I'm in NZ and have the Stormbreak, which would be similarly tight but i froze my butt off in that when it was just below 0 °C so looking for something that would keep me warmer as i go out in winter a lot. Would you think this is suitable? Thank you
It was more as a super light footprint option. The Ferrino is warm due to it's compactness and aluminised fly but the the build quality could be a bit 'italian' !
@@AndrewParkOutdoors Cheers mate! I was wondering as much. Great idea. I always have one with me. Yeah, I bought the Ferrino Transalp 100l backpack last year for big missions into the mountains with ropes and climbing gear and food and tent etc etc, and while it is a really solid and handy pack, it is perhaps also a little "Italian" on the quality side, but so far I am happy enough. So I know what you mean. I couldn't really find another affordable solo tent that would be warm enough for some snow though so I will give the Ferrino Solo a shot. Keep those videos coming, really appreciating your way of doing these. Kia ora from New Zealand
The hills of Dumfries and Galloway are slowly being destroyed by wind turbines.
I wonder what difference it actually makes in terms of withstanding high winds with the double pole option?
check out Fellman Dave's latest !
More guy points weigh very little, but require sealing to prevent rain from getting to the living area. I suppose that the added cost of manufacture is the reason for the decision to exclude them Bad decision.
Looks ok for fair weather camping, but certainly lacks guy/ pegging points in certain areas.
My Vaude Hogan was still wproof after an overnight storm near Glenfinnan, but the poles eventually gave way. Vaude sent me new poles! Great company, with superb fabrics.
I think this is the 4th video I am watching from your expedition with this futurelight tent. I am based in Canada and thinking about getting the NF bivy but I am really debating because of the condensation aspect...
For whats it's worth it's one of the most breathable single skins I've tried but if you are expecting conditions where it will wet out outside then it will stop working. Also sub zero it will just form ice crystals inside but solo never had an issue for my fast light single overnight trips. I guess it depends on your own use case. A
I’ve been in those caves
Is Nordisk about to make a Svalbard SI 2.0? Looks great!
I hope so 🤞
- personally, I don't think it would work as a 2 person (interior space and access to the door)... and, they already have the Telemark ?
Great vlog Andrew, I've not had chance to pitch my nexus yet. Just a quick question does the inner clip in then put the cord over the pegs meaning is inner is loose all the time?
Hi Martin Id recommend doing what I did and feed the corner elastics through the webbing on the four flysheet corners and tie a knot. That way your inner is attached all the time ( but still removable if you want to dry it ). Much quicker and convenient to pitch the tent 'as one'. A
@AndrewParkOutdoors thank you Andrew , I will give that a go, thank you for your reply.
would you recommend this over the helm 2 for multi day summer trips?
To be honest I've never seen the helm 2, both good tents but if I remember correctly the helm 2 is pretty narrow and wouldn't be that comfortable for two ?
How would you compare the internal space of the Vango against the Vern. I appreciate the Vango is 3 season but weighing it up with a couple of the newcomers. Keep up the good work 👍
Hi, Vern 1 feels from memory taller inside ( I think ) but a solo space, the Nexus feels deep and wide like proper 2 person size though low and sleek in the wind
Nice tent and location To be honest I get bored seeing mountains and hill camps all the time 👍🏻
You should try out thr asta gear shanju 1 andrew. Cant see anyone on UA-cam who has reviewed it. Looks interesting design.
Looks like a clone of a Lanshan 1 Trekking pole tent
@@Yorkshiremadmick not really. It's quite different structure. More like the zpacks altaplex. Just not quite as tall.
I tell everyone to take a bag of ned rubbish home if we can.👍🏴🚙⛺️
